Film: Billy Elliot

Setting:
Everington (fictious town) close to Newcastle. The story takes place during the miners' strike 1984-85. 

Billy - 11 years old. Lives with his father, older brother and grandmother who has Alzheimers & who wanted to become a ballet dancer when she was younger. 

Billy's father wants him to go to boxing, like he and his older brother before him. So he pays for his boxing lessons. 

At this time - Margaret Thatcher PM in GB. She was the first female PM in GB (they have had three). In northern England many people worked in coal mines. She wanted to close them down, because they were not economic enough. So, therefor they went on a strike. There used to be 174 coal mines in northern England, by 2015 there were none, so many people lost their jobs.
